Libertas not Polish enough for Polish right-wingersI cannot help but relay the latest piece of news concerning Libertas and the Polish Radio Maryja. It seems the later has decided Declan Ganley's movement is not Polish enough to deserve a vote. The news was brought by "Gazeta Wyborcza" here (in Polish). If you haven't heard of Radio Maryja, you will not understand the significance of this news. It's a radio station created by father Rydzyk. Although he is a catholic monk, his station's right wing, sometimes antisemitic and certainly not brotherly-loving views are not exactly in line with the catholic church's teachings. The station became very influential, with about 3 mln listeners in its best days. To the rest of of Poland these are known as "mohair berets" for the fashionable hair covers these (mostly) ladies wear. Although in the last years the radio seems to have been on a steep downward trend, its support is still valuable to the right wing parties. In recent times the Law and Justice of the Kaczyński brothers were in favour, and before them the League of Polish Families. Some former League members are now with Libertas, so it was interesting to hear what Radio Maryja says. One of the monks spilled the beans. He said that the group is "not purely Polish". He also called it an "Irish, international group which is aiming at the creation of a European superstate" (sic!). The station's host usually speak the line of father Rydzyk, so it looks like Libertas can't count on any publicity there. piątek, 08 maja 2009, dominique
